Oil and Gas Terminals
Milford Haven
Introduction Print
Royal Haskoning has developed particular expertise in engineering the features unique to oil, oil product and LNG terminals, building on its extensive knowledge of maritime engineering for other types of terminals, especially the health and safety requirements.
The expertise described in the Maritime Portal is applicable to many Oil and Gas projects where maritime transport issues play a role. There are however some differences in the way projects are approached by the Oil and Gas sector, versus other industry sectors.

The most important aspects where differences are noticeable are:
• Time. Due to the large investments involved, project delays are significantly less acceptable than in other sectors.

• Quality. High standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control play an important role in any project, but Oil and Gas projects require even more attention to these aspects.

• Cost. Maritime Engineering for the Oil and Gas Industry is a civil engineering branch that – in contrast to all other industry sectors – only contributes in a relatively small portion to the investments required for oil refineries, LNG terminals, etc. This leads to a different level of attention by Clients for this aspect of their projects.

• Health, Safety, Environment. HSE is of the utmost importance in the Oil and Gas Industry. Inclusion of these issues in all aspects and all phases of projects is a matter of course.

• Project Administration and Document Control. Accountability and traceability of work done is also a specific requirement.
In the relation between, Time, Quality and Cost, the Industry tends to prioritise in this order, while other (port) sectors often use the reversed sequence.

Royal Haskoning, and especially the Maritime Division, are well aware of these particular issues/requirements from the Oil and Gas sector and acts accordingly in projects for Oil and Gas Clients.
